PHIXER for club system mono check: PA fold and disappearing bass before release

Club and festival PAs often sum low end or run near-mono paths. Kick thump and bass body that feel huge in headphones can disappear on the dancefloor. Practical habit: true L+R sum on the master or USB path, then polarity and timing, then residual frequency-aware phase rotation only if a stereo bed must stay stereo. Check with free PHIXER before release, not only after a soft drop. It is not a club limiter, not a DJ EQ, and not a substitute for a real mono listen on the system bus.

PHIXER is free stereo phase-repair (VST3/CLAP/AU · Win/Mac/Linux) from Riverflux Audio. Frequency-aware phase rotation for leftover L/R fights on stereo material. It is not a PA processor, not a time-aligner, not a stereo widener, and not a substitute for polarity, delay matching, or a true mono check before the dancefloor. Use it after hygiene, when residual spectral cancellation remains on a stereo bed you must keep stereo. Check before release.

Club PA mono fold failure modes (disappearing bass)

Fast club / PA mono audition (about 60 seconds)

  1. Sum L+R on the master, USB export, or monitor controller mono. Listen to kick body, bass fundamental, and vocal mid. Do not mute one side to "hear the problem."
  2. A/B stereo vs mono. Note what disappears on fold: kick thump, sub, wide FX.
  3. Mute wide FX / Haas / side-heavy verbs briefly. Note which path thins the floor.
  4. Confirm on a phone speaker or single earbud, then again after any limiter / clipper pass.
  5. Only then audition residual L/R spectral fights with PHIXER if the stereo bed must stay stereo. Prove any change with mono A/B before release.

Honest order of fixes (before spectral phase rotation)

1. True mono listen on the system / USB path

Hard L+R sum. Habit cousins: DJ edits / club mono and mono check workflow.

2. Polarity if a path flips

Kick layers, bass DI+amp, dual FX returns. Flip Ø when body returns. Guide: polarity invert vs continuous phase rotation.

3. Timing / delay-align before spectral tools

Nudge layered kicks, samples, and dual-path bass a few ms. Spectral rotation is not a substitute for timing.

4. Prefer correlated lows for the floor

Keep critical low-mid correlated. Put width in sides that survive fold. Related: vinyl cut prep (same groove-friendly mono habit) and remix stem QC.

5. Only then residual frequency-aware phase rotation

If a stereo bed must stay stereo and fold still hollows a band after the steps above, gentle rotation can help. Check with PHIXER before release. Prove it with mono A/B. Watch the YouTube tutorial and intro.
